Paragliders by EN / LTF Safety Rating
Find the right wing for your skill level. We categorise all wings by the European Norm (EN) safety certification, from school-friendly EN-A to high-performance EN-D competition gliders.
Understanding Paraglider Certification
The EN (European Norm) and LTF (German Airworthiness) ratings are the industry standard for paraglider safety. Wings are put through a rigorous series of flight tests—including induced collapses, stalls, and spirals—to determine how they react and, crucially, how quickly they recover without pilot input.
Which Class is Right for You?
-
EN A (The School Class): These wings offer maximum passive safety. If a collapse occurs, the wing will recover spontaneously. They are very forgiving of incorrect pilot input. Recommended for: Students and new graduates.
-
EN B (The Progression Class): The widest category in the sport.
-
Low-B: Very close to A-class safety but with more agile handling.
-
High-B: Performance wings that rival the C-class in glide, but retain B-class recovery characteristics. Recommended for: Weekend pilots to XC enthusiasts.
-
-
EN C (The Sports Class): These wings are dynamic and fast. They require "Active Piloting" (continuous inputs to keep the wing open in turbulence). Often feature 2-liner technology. Recommended for: Pilots flying 50+ hours/year.
-
EN D / CCC (The Competition Class): The cutting edge of performance. Designed for experts who demand maximum speed and glide ratio. Recommended for: Professional and competition pilots.
Passive Safety vs. Active Safety
Remember: A higher rating (like EN-C) gives you more performance but demands faster reaction times. A lower rating (EN-A/B) looks after you when things go wrong. "Step up later" is the golden rule of paragliding longevity.
