Ambitious Cross Country
Cross Country made fun! The new SIGMA DLS promises a performance boost and plenty of fun while thermalling thanks to its forgiving flight characteristics. The redesigned internal structure not only makes this cross-country sportster more powerful but also lighter. This is achieved with mini ribs featuring nitinol wires at the leading edge and a Durable Lightweight Structure that perfectly balances lightness and robustness. The SIGMA DLS weighs from just 3.70 kg.
Along with the new profile, the front mini ribs ensure that the aerodynamically critical leading edge remains precisely shaped. The resulting high profile fidelity significantly contributes to the performance leap of the SIGMA DLS (compared to the SIGMA 11). Despite this improvement, it continues to meet the familiar pilot requirements of the previous series.
XC enthusiasts can look forward to an exceptional balance of performance and ease with the SIGMA DLS. The tried-and-tested three-liner concept ensures a forgiving character with safety reserves. The new cross-country sportster responds to control inputs precisely and directly, providing a fun flying experience in thermals.
With DLS technology, the over 30-year tradition of the SIGMA series meets the future. Detailed construction optimizations and an ideally matched material mix make the SIGMA DLS surprisingly light (available from 3.7 kg). The super-elastic Nitinol wires reduce pack volume and increase durability, as they do not deform even under greater stress.
Technology & Features
DLS combines a number of small but important innovations, which together save a lot of weight. The mix of lightweight and conventional fabrics is now better targeted and additional weight is saved through specific geometric optimisations.
The additional nitinol front mini ribs ensure that the canopy maintains its precise shape, especially at the aerodynamically crucial leading edge. Detailed calculations of the mini ribs enable optimal profile fidelity in every flight condition. This is a key factor that enables the high performance of the SIGMA DLS.
The SIGMA DLS has a modern pitch control system with C handles. C level inputs are transmitted directly from C to B level so that the wing profile shape is maintained. The glider delivers its full performance potential even when actively controlled by C handles.
The SIGMA DLS line set is extremely length-stable and retains above-average tensile strength, even after many flights. Unsheathed Pro Dry lines are colour-coded and 60% more water-repellent than previous-generation lines.
“With over 2000 km flown under this exceptional wing and accomplishing a 433 km flight, I can confidently declare it as the quintessential tool for exhilarating flights, instilling a profound sense of safety and engagement in the skies.”
“With the SIGMA 11, I achieved my dream of a 400 km flight in the flatlands of Poland. My next goal is to reach the 500 km mark with the SIGMA DLS.”
“I took the SIGMA DLS with me for a project in Pakistan. It’s easy to fly, playful, delivers great performance and ins incredibly stable at full speed.”
The Seamless Weight Ranges of the SIGMA DLS make a clear transition from one wing size to the next, so that any pilot suits only one ideal take-off weight range. In this way, the SIGMA DLS guarantees the optimum balance of useful airspeed and climb performance in all flying conditions.
“A plain and simple 3-line concept for the conventional C class pilot. The SIGMA DLS is very comfortable to fly, agile, and with very good gliding performance. After the IOTA DLS and other high B’s, the SIGMA DLS will welcome you for its high accessibility as a three-liner C glider.”
From Roland Brunnbauer
“Easy launch behavior, Nitinol in the leading edge and the best handling of a SIGMA ever. Precise in the upper range, with the best performance you can currently get out of a 3-liner. “
